Saturday, May 19th - Hong Kong

Saturday, May 19th - Hong Kong

Drew and I had a good flight over to Hong Kong, via Tokyo.  No drugs!!  Stayed strong and didn't lose it!!  First leg was of our flight was 12 hours straight to Tokyo.  I watched several movies,  Warhorse (cried silently as to not embarrass Drew), Moneyball (since Pauly saw it without me), New Year's Eve (gotta love NYC).  Delta's new 747 with a screen in every seat was key!! Having a kick-ass agent book Drew and I aisle seats was also key!!  Thanks Cindee!!

The flight was packed, however, the large group of returning Singaporians were very small people and didn't take up much room!!  Drew and I didn't eat any food on the plane it!!  Travel tip #1 from many friends who are world travelers,  don't eat airplane food.  Drink a lot of water and have a big meal before your flight!  They served food the entire flight and the Singapore group loved it!! Took  a one hour cat-nap as to try and ease into the 13 hours difference we would soon experience.

We landed in Tokyo and were hungry.  He hadn't eaten since yesterday at noon.  Drew wanted asian noodles.  We found a good place in the airport and had soup.  Very good, fat noodles with pork and tofu.  First day of eating with chopsticks and talk about self-conscious!  I think everyone was watching me!!  This nice father and daughter sat next to us and eventually retrieved a fork for me because they felt sorry for me....we had a good laugh!!  Almost took the fork and put it in my purse, but I am determined to master the art of eating with chopsticks.  I will keep you posted!!  The nice father and daughter were on their way to Korea.  Daughter just graduated from Michigan was going to do an internship in Korea.  They were both asian folk. The daughter, Michelle, was gong to start law school this fall in Brooklyn.  Father was so proud, he couldn't stop smiling!!  It was fun to see other parents traveling with their adult children.  I enjoyed watching Drew converse with them about his adventure to China last summer and how excited he is to come back!!  I have to pinch myself  that I a getting this opportunity to travel with him!!  It is so much fun to be with him!!  He travels just like Paul.  Easy going and adventurous!!

We got back on the plane to head for Hong Kong at 7:30 p.m., however, had a 2 hour mechanical delay.  After a 4 hour flight (16 hours total today), we later landed in Hong Kong.  Very hot and humid for 1:00 a.m.  Was sweating like a pig.  Drew and Paul both warned me about the heat and humidity...they know I am the snow girl from Minnesota and heat is not my friend!!  I had no idea it would feel like the jungle!!  Ufda!!

Customs was fine, lines were long, but they kept everyone moving.  Taxi ride to The Royal Pacific was quick (driver drove 90 miles per hour) and it was good thing I left my prosecutor hat home because this is one guy I wouldn't give a deal to keep his ticket off his record.  LOL

It took all of two seconds on the hardest bed in the world to fall asleep last night!!

Woke up at 7:30 a.m. (8:30 p.m. Minnesota time) and strolled down for some java and morning needlepoint!!  Wanted to let Drew sleep in since he just got done with finals less than 48 hours ago, rushed back to Minnesota, packed, ate dinner with lax buddies, breakfast with a Chaska buddy and hopped on a plane to China at 3:00 p.m.  He hit the wall and needed to replenish his body and mind!

Called Pauly to update him on my flight achievement!  Sounds like he is doing just fine being a bachelor!!  Lax is on all weekend, so he is happy.  Drew will be skyping with him in order to watch the games this weekend.  Laxheads!!  What can I say, 6,000 miles away and he has to keep his finger on the lax pulse!!

Drew eventually found me in the Deli and he was starved.  We had breakfast at the hotel, a little dim sum, fresh salmon, and fresh mango (I added the prunes to my plate!!)  Drew had a full agenda for the day (sounds like his mother).  First things first!!  We headed to Nathan Road to visit his tailor.  By the time we got there, I pulled my sweaty wet hair up and was wishing I had cut it all off before coming.  It was hot and humid and only mid-morning!  I thought, oh my God, what am I going to do when it hits high noon??  Whip off my clothes??

We found the tailors in a mall setting, but a Chinese mall, not an American mall setting.  There were at least 50-100 stores the size of your closet open for business.  Unbelievable!!  I got lost going down the millions of aisles looking for the Andover Tailors.  It was ike a maze with dead ends and everything...felt like I was on Survivor!!  We finally found the place.  Last year Drew ordered a beautiful hand-tailored black pinstriped suit from Mr. Richard and he loves it.  Drew had emailed Mr. Richard that he was coming back and they were ready for us!!  It was fun to watch them laugh and banter for an hour or two about their meeting last year.  Mr. Richard was anxious to get updates about the other characters who were traveling with Drew last year.  Funny!!

This year Drew was fitted for a beautiful silk and cashmere blend two piece - three button - grey herring bone stripped suit with several european cut shirts.  I, too, ordered several items and could see why Drew loves these guys.  Second fitting tomorrow.  Everything should be ready by Tuesday, just in time for my loan to come through from the states......

Next we grabbed the ferry to Hong Kong Island.  We are staying in Kowloon Hong Kong.  Drew wanted me to take the tram to The Peak. The tram (which looks like a trolley) climbed a mountain at a pretty good vertical slant...a little scarey!!  At The Peak we got a great view of Hong Kong and the harbor.  It was beautiful.  We were lucky because the rain had not moved into the harbor yet, although it wanted to...I could feel it!!  After a picture taking session we had lunch at a vietnamese place where we had a sou with clear noodles and chicken with lemon grass.  I know, it was hot outside and we had soup.  Call us crazy.  But it was good!!

When we came down from the mountain, we took the red line "Big Bus Tour".  We got a handle on Hong Kong Island and many of its historical sites.  This also helped us decide where to go tonight and tomorrow.  We must see the escalator road, Jordan road and the ferry ride at night to see the harbor lights.

Need a nap, so going to stop for now so we can get ready for the evening adventure!!
