Hurtigruten - Trondheim to Bergen

Wednesday to Thursday, May 14-15, 2014

We hated to leave Trondheim...we fell in love with the beautiful town and people and food, but we had booked a 28 hour cruise ship to Bergen, which we understand was to be another Norwegian treasure!!  The 28 hour cruise was wonderful...all along the western coast of Norway and it was beautiful.  Small towns and farmland laced throughout the countryside, mountains and rolling hills, and thousands of islands.  We were bobbing and weaving our way down the coast, sitting outside on the deck and enjoying the sun....snow in the mountains, reminded me of Spring skiing in shorts. The catch of the day was hanging on ranks outside on the top deck in anticipation of the main course.  Dried fish is wonderful.  We really enjoy all of the fish dishes in Scandinavia and do not miss beef or chicken one bit.  If you are craving beef, reindeer is about as close as you are going to get!!  The boat was steady and slow.  We brought the age median down to about 60 years old.  The boys were, besides a set of twins, the youngest on board.  It was very very relaxing and we enjoyed playing lots of cards and taking cat naps!!  None of us had any problem falling asleep on board.  The boat did not rock hardly at all.

We landed on the Bergen shore,  Thursday, May 15th around 2:30 and it was pouring down rain.  Bergen was beautiful, except for the low lying clouds.  Again, another town with wood painted houses...my favorite colors...butterscotch and barnyard red, with a few admiral blue.  We immediately got to our hotel, threw our bags in the room, put our raincoats on and headed out to explore and go the famous fish market!! Wow!!  Fabulous fish booths.  It all looked soooo good!!  Nate and I had a seafood curry and Paul and Drew had a fish soup with a fish bisket.  The flavor was unbelievable!!  The town is darling and would have been twice as darling if it wasn't raining!!  But none the less, it was quaint and beautiful, right on the coast, settled in a little harbor with lots and lots of boats!!
